Inside Our Geometry Workshop
We are a small Bristol studio of illustrators, a maths teacher and one very patient 3D modeller. We build illusions so we can take them apart in front of you.
How we work
Every page starts with a contradiction we want you to feel, then a rule we want you to keep. We model each illusion as a real 3D scene, light it softly, and photograph it on plain espresso or cream backgrounds so nothing distracts from the geometry.
Because the scenes are real models, we can show you the angle where the trick works and describe what happens when you move. That is how we separate genuinely impossible figures from perspective tricks honestly.
- Original renders are always labelled as ours.
- Historical works are described and credited, not copied.
- Every explanation works without hover or animation.
The bench where models are tested before rendering: card beams, plaster tiles and many failed pentagons.
Sources we trust
Our explanations draw on primary papers and standard references, including Branko Grünbaum and G.C. Shephard’s Tilings and Patterns, Doris Schattschneider’s Visions of Symmetry on Escher’s notebooks, Bruno Ernst’s The Magic Mirror of M.C. Escher, and the original 1958 Penrose paper. When scholars disagree, as with symmetry counts at the Alhambra, we say so.
Independence
JumbiScandiPuzzl is independent. We are not affiliated with The M.C. Escher Company, any artist’s estate, museum or publisher mentioned on this site. We do not sell ads or accept paid placements.
